Arriving into Vietnam out of Fort Lewis in early October 1966, Troop D 1/10th Cavalry performed a Divisional Reconnaissance role for the 4th Infantry Division (Poison Ivy).
The role of the 'Slicks' was the insertion and extraction of ground forces from combat zones and insertion of LRRP Units into remote jungle areas (Air-Cavalry / Airmobile ).
They were also used for the resupply of ground forces in combat zones.
Both doors of the Slicks were manned with M-60 Machine Guns and door gunners.
The Slicks of Troop D, 1st Squadron of the 10th Cavalry main role was the protection of the roadways leading into and out of Pleiku until January of 1971 when the 4th Infantry Division departed Vietnam and they transferred to the 173rd Airborne.
When the main body of the 1st / 10th departed Vietnam Troop D transferred to the previously deactivated 7th Squadron of the 17th cavalry in July of 1971 and served at Da Nang with a strength of 200 operatives.
They eventually departed Vietnam on the 28th of February 1973.
